Is It Hard for You to Receive?

Is It Hard for You to Receive?

For many of us adults, it’s hard to receive, unlike children. They don’t hesitate whether the gift is big or small, expensive or luxurious, or from whom it comes; they receive it with joy. Why? Because they are children and have no prejudices about receiving.

Receiving is an action that requires three elements:

  1. The object or action to be given.

  2. The receiver or the one who receives.

  3. The giver of the object or action.

Let’s take the human body as an example. All the organs (the receivers) receive information, whether neuronal, hormonal, or chemical (object or action to be given), from the head or brain, which is the one that gives or directs. If the organs are not connected to the body and the head, it will be impossible for them to receive the information.

Remember that the head is responsible for directing the rest of the body and giving the information. The head controls, directs, and nourishes the rest of the body; that is its function, the head is what governs. The organs do not hesitate to receive information from the head; they receive it and make the most of that information.

But to receive, someone must decide to give, and the greatest giver in history is God.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”

John 3:16-18 NIV

In this passage, we can see that the giver was God, the gift was salvation, the object of the gift (so to speak, not that it is) was Jesus, and we are the receivers.

But to receive that gift, there is an action: to believe. We must believe in Him, believe in Jesus as our Savior. Believe like a child, without the adult mindset that questions everything. Learn to receive the gift of salvation without questioning; it is an undeserved gift given by the head, who is our Father God. For our lives to function well, we must constantly receive information from God. God wants you and me to live as He wants us to live, to act as He acts, to say what He says, to love as He loves.

For reflection this morning: Is it hard for you to receive the gift of salvation? Receive it without hesitation. God loved you so much that He sent Jesus, His gift, to die for you because He loves you. Receive this gift like a child because it is a gift we did not deserve, but God, even though we did not deserve it, gave it to us.
