When we speak of light and darkness, our minds conjure images of brightness and obscurity; we think of day and night, creating an atmosphere of something external. However, when referring to the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness, it is crucial to understand that these two kingdoms develop within us. Both coexist, but one always prevails.
When we mention the "world," we refer to the system that governs us, and the Holy Scriptures make it clear that Satan is the prince of this system (John 14:30). In fact, Jesus, aware of this reality, prayed:
“I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one. Just as I do not belong to this world, they do not belong to this world. Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world.” (John 17:15-18 NTV)
Jesus knew we could be contaminated, as indeed has happened and continues to happen. How many of us, despite professing to be children of God, are enslaved by this system?
Let us reflect on our marriages: are they guided by the teachings of the world or by those of God? How do we manage our finances? According to what the world says or what God says? Why do we study and seek professional advancement?
Let’s examine today’s music. Have you analyzed its lyrics, the attire of the artists, their dances? They amass fortunes, but whom do you think they truly serve? It’s disheartening to see many who call themselves children of God also sympathizing with this world.
And if we look at their personal lives, what example do they provide? This is what the current culture promotes, you might say. This culture of darkness feeds pride, arrogance, ego, selfishness, envy, jealousy, deception, and more.
Remember that in the world’s system, the flesh reigns, while in God’s system, the Spirit reigns. Wealth in the world enslaves you; wealth in God grants you freedom. As John 8:32 states, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” This indicates that slavery is always lurking around us.
The question is: are you free? It’s time to renounce scarcity, misery, and poverty; I’m not just talking about money, but about mindset.
Romans 12:2 urges us: “Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good, pleasing, and perfect.”
